In Italy, there is significant access to medical care and a high level of quality with regard to its medical personnel and facilities. A significant amount of research is conducted in Italy and it ranks high on the international level when looking at the amount of spend into research.
The clinical regulatory environment changed drastically after the implementation of the ministerial decrees in 1998. Gradually this has continued and is now providing an excellent environment for conducting clinical trials.
Data from the clinical trial database of the Italian Ministry of Health show that many of the clinical studies performed in Italy are international studies (73 percent). In the past few years there has also been increasing involvement in Phase II studies. The largest proportion of trials are in oncology and immunology (30.7 percent) followed by neurology (10.7 percent).
In Italy, Kendle has experience in the major therapeutic areas such as oncology, CNS, cardiovascular, respiratory and pediatrics. Kendle is one of the co-founders of the Italian Association of CROs (AICRO) also.
