At Kendle we’ve been responsible for many successful Health Economics and Outcomes Research. Below are some recent examples where we’ve delivered results.
Global standardization and country-specific needs
Kendle Late Phase collaborated with a large pharmaceutical company on a health outcomes study investigating the costs of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and the influencing factors for hospitalizations in Germany, France, the US and Japan. To identify the costs, we undertook interviews with 57 hospital sites to gather information on more than 2,100 patients on the course of the disease and treatment during hospitalization.
To meet tight timelines and achieve good data quality, we developed an electronic case report form. This meant data could be entered during interviews, providing automated quality checks and timely completion, and allowed for global standardization despite country-specific variations.
Automated data management
A cardiovascular post-marketing surveillance study, involving 500 sites and 10,000 patients, required high quality data collection with low costs and serious adverse event handling. Using an internet-based data collection system with built-in data checks and a physician hotline, we completed the study on time and on budget. We also incorporated an immediate automatic notification of serious adverse drug reactions to the sponsor’s appropriate drug safety personnel.
Comprehensive costs and treatment outcomes
This two-year, prospective, observational study investigated two treatments in a real-life setting amongst 700 patients across 150 different institutions. We coordinated hospital physicians, office-based psychiatrists and outpatient clinics involved for each patient by means of a customized study-specific database package and maintained motivation and involvement by extensive telephone monitoring, newsletters, reminder faxes and automated and customized status reports  |
