Taking the patient’s view

Kendle’s unsurpassed expertise in patient recruitment and retention truly comes into its own when we are managing ophthalmology studies. Subjects are often elderly and may have other, more pressing health concerns, while the logistics of attending for study visits may be compromised by impaired vision, placing retention at risk. Kendle’s ophthalmology specialists are adept at motivating and encouraging participants, recognizing the inestimable value of creating local materials specifically designed for those with visual difficulties. We have the resources, experience and flexibility to implement these targeted strategies to deliver your ophthalmology study on time.

Ophthalmology case study

In an international Phase III study for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a company needed to enroll 1,200 patients across 200 sites in 26 countries. This was a new therapeutic area for the customer so they needed a partner with full-service, global capabilities, strong ophthalmology experience and even stronger patient access expertise. Kendle was an ideal fit, being widely acknowledged as one of the most experienced, global, full-service CROs in ophthalmology, and in particular, posterior eye diseases such as AMD. We leveraged our network of established ophthalmologic sites, relying on the emerging markets of Central Eastern Europe, Asia/Pacific and Latin America to augment the traditional Western European markets. The result? All 1,200 patients were enrolled on time and Kendle was able to use its other resources to assist the customer with investigator meetings, project management, clinical monitoring and clinical data management.
